Hello List,

Who cares where the expressions of support come from, or what motivates them?

If they come with arguments, regard the arguments.

If they come with a simple +1, you can weigh the value of that with your own judgement.

This search for speaker motivations is antithetical to the operation of the list and to bottom-up governance.

The demand for each speaker to explicitly state their motivation is poisonous.

Do you want to reduce participation? Because this is how you do that.

Unfortunately ARIN isn’t alone on this trend.

Regards,
Mike

https://www.arin.net/participate/policy/drafts/2020_2/ "While attending ARIN 44 and discussing this with other community members the vast majority indicated that they agreed that some organizations were treated unfairly. This proposal is a remedy."

It seems this policy was spawned from vague data on "attendees of ARIN 44." It's concerning that ARIN does not acknowledge the long term harm on the broader community and chooses to focus on the short term remedy for legacy ISPs.

@Alyssa Moore + @Anita Nikolich Will the fate of this policy reside in the hands of ISPs who stand to gain from it as you've indicated previously? https://lists.arin.net/pipermail/arin-ppml/2020-August/068029.html "There are 18 comments in favour of the spirit of this policy, and 5 against." If these ISPs continue to lobby their "customers" to reply on this thread in favor of the policy, will that hold any weight?

Regards,

Robert

+1 on this.

Where is the data from ARIN on where the support for this policy is coming from?

I oppose any special treatment being given to organizations that encourage their customers to spam the policy list with messages in support of such special treatment.

To Whom it May Concern,

We do business with Stratus as a Fiber provider for our operation as well as many of our clients. They are a legitimate internet service provider. We support the Stratus stance on this policy. Thank you for the consideration.

Sincerely,

Chad Geiser
