[arin-ppml] Slow summer....

Hello Sylvain,
I'm sorry if I wasn't more clear on what has happened on the African list. There clearly has been astroturfing and use of llms to generate emails which are repeating the same arguments from newcomer addresses.
I have not commented on the proposal there which relates to the as-set but I saw the opportunity to possibly launch a larger and more trenchant discussion of the advent of llm use in this context.
On that list I was careful in my first post to distinguish the mere use of an llm from its use to subvert the list through duplication or excessive volume etc.
My stance is that the first use is acceptable and the second use of course never is, but further to that my question becomes is it necessary to have a human do the actual posting or is that a distinction without a difference when a human can merely echo an llms words.
Is the open mailing list open to non-human posters?
I guess that is the meat of the discussion that I was seeking to have.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Regards,
Mike

Hi Fernando,
I welcome your thoughts.
Hi Mike,
Thanks for starting this thread, here, brother!
...then, are you willing to call those *astrotufing* posters,
who already fllooded the RPD [1] mailing list with their
automated email, to come defend their own PoV (Point
of View) themselves here?

It may get harder and harder to distinguish between polish and outright verbatim echoing of AI posts by a human interlocutor.
Brother, it appears that i have a clearly opposing view of the
future [2] of the world (FotW).

So, do kindly allow me to suggest to refrain yourself in going
further in such a random speculative perspective; imho!
Your view is your; though...
The open mailing list is designed to solicit the best arguments, should we ignore the best arguments if they come from AI?
Please, brother, when you decide to move a discussion of
this kind to a new place, be kind enough to at least describe
the problem as it exactly happened out there.
...anyone who want to check the open archives; would see
what's really at stake! AI as been identified as the tools which
empowered a bunch of newcommers with strong view on a
topic the have seemingly not heard prior to their subscription
to that mailing list.

Please, allow me to doubt that, even for the sake of luring for
more active participation, this community would hardly accept
to be flooded in such a way.
Your mealeage may vary!
It seems likely to be that we will be dealing with this situation at some point.
There is nothing new here, brother! see here [3,4]; please!

Surely no AI should post in a human discussion mail list. It doesn't make much sense
If people want to use AI to polish their text no problem, as long messages are reviewed and sent by humans.
Mail list should not be treated a destination for automated systems to send message, just for human discussions.

Hello List,
Based on a current discussion on the AFRINIC policy development list, I wanted to discuss the use of AI to post to policy lists.
Because these are open forums handled by email, it is quite trivial for any AI to be echoed to the list by a real person, or even post directly in the guise of a real person.
I have used translators to help me post, I expect more and more will use AI to polish, if not create their posts.
So simply banning use of AI is not the answer, but it brings up some questions.
Is this the camel’s nose of AI into human government?
Should we empower an AI to post directly, or be callable like ask grok?
Should we treat the AI posts just like any other post?
I am not discussing abuse of the list through repeated AI posts restating the same argument and I assume lists have existing tools to exclude certain posters who do abuse.
Any thoughts on using AI on stakerholder governance lists?
Regards,
Mike
