No, Internet2 never had anything to do with Registry Services. It is
simply a private backbone. Early on (2001ish) for ipv6 it kind of acted
as an LIR because of the very early IPv6 policies, these days there is a
push for participants to get their IPv6 assignments or allocations
directly from ARIN.
