Exactly. Unless the provider is doing 100% managed services for all
hosts in that net block, calling the provider is usually a waste of
time. What if that block of IP addresses is actually in use in someone
else's colo or back at the customer's office? What is the provider
going to do except (hopefully) give you the information you should have
already been able to get. And what if it is midnight local on a
weekend? Is the person on duty going to know that they are even allowed
to give out the customer contact info?
There are so many problems with this at so many levels for no other
reason than to protect someone's customer list and absolutely no benefit
to any other segment of the community.
