If only TCAM were common as sliced bread and cheap
like borshch.
You can implement TCAM on FPGA hardware, and there are
FPGA boards available for PCs. It would be interesting
if someone wrote some software to use a TCAM in some
open source db software like PostgreSQL. If a benchmark
with TCAM showed a big enough improvement over non-TCAM
that might be the motivation for more widespread production
of TCAM for PCs, which in turn would drive down the prices
of TCAM overall.
