We've gone through about 3 generations of CPEs in our DSL network, 
usually to support a new DSL standard or service. Of course there are 
always those handful of customers who still somehow manage with >5 year 
old DSL modems, but a large majority of those tend to be removed by 
attrition over time. The trick is to know how much turnover time you're 
going to need in your network before you want to start introducing IPv6 
to the majority of your customers.

For those customers who want it today (or when I have an IPv6 modem in 
hand), experience tells me they'd be perfectly happy to drop by an 
office to exchange the modem out, if they believe they're getting value 
out of the switch.
