No... A V6 /48 is smaller than a V6 /32, but, as you have pointed out,
blindly mapping between V4 and V6 doesn't work. It is not 1/256th of
your current V4, it isn't even 1/256th of a V6 /32 (it is 1/65,536th
of a V6 /32), but, it is 2^79 times the size of your V4 /32. Do you
really think that you need 2^79 times as much address space as you
currently use?

I think multiple subnet homes will become more common. I already have
one. I would oppose any policy that didn't allow a home user to obtain
a /48 based on the desire to subnet. However, I don't think that is the
same as saying every home user should automatically receive a /48.
Today, there are home users that receive /32s and home users that receive
larger assignments. In the IPv6 world, those same two groups fit perfectly
well into /64 and /48, respectively. Admittedly, I have trouble picturing
a home user needing more than 65,536 subnets, so, I don't see more than
a /48 really being needed.
