No, actually the number of people on a board should always be even (if you are
worrying about tie votes--and if you are, you are worrying too much ;-) ). If
you have a set of good people on your board, they are, by definition, in high
demand and you will almost always have somebody absent. If you want an odd
number at the meeting to do business and vote, you are just as or more likely
get that if the number of seats filled is even.
