In accordance with the ARIN Policy Development Process (PDP), the ARIN
Advisory Council (AC) met on 19 June 2014.
The AC recommended the following to the ARIN Board for adoption:
Recommended Draft Policy ARIN-2013-7: NRPM 4 (IPv4) Policy Cleanup
The AC moved the following to last call:
Recommended Draft Policy ARIN-2013-8: Subsequent Allocations for New
Multiple Discrete Networks
Recommended Draft Policy ARIN-2014-5: Remove 7.2 Lame Delegations
Recommended Draft Policy ARIN-2414-12: Anti-hijack Policy
Recommended Draft Policy ARIN-2014-13: Reduce All Minimum
Allocation/Assignment Units to /24
The AC abandoned the following:
Draft Policy ARIN-2014-3: Remove 8.2 and 8.3 and 8.4 Minimum IPv4
Block Size Requirements
Draft Policy ARIN-2014-8: Alignment of 8.3 Needs Requirements to
Reality of Business
Draft Policy ARIN-2014-11: Improved Registry Accuracy Proposal
The AC provided the following statements:
"The ARIN council voted to abandon 2014-3 Remove 8.2 and 8.3 and 8.4
Minimum IPv4 Block Size Requirements for the following reasons:
- Minimal support from the community
- Substantial opposition expressed on list and at the PPM and PPC
The AC recognizes that there was some level of support expressed for a
reduction in the minimum block size requirements, but did not find
enough support to modify this proposal."
"The ARIN council voted to abandon 2014-8 Alignment of 8.3 Needs
Requirements to Reality of Business:
- The author has confirmed that he was amenable to the abandonment of
the proposal.
- There has been general consensus that this proposal is premature and
makes changes to section 8.3 that could have significant unintentional
policy changes.
- Since the initial proposal a number of other proposals have
addressed many of the concerns."
"The ARIN council voted to abandon 2014-11 Improved Registry Accuracy
for the following reasons:
- At the PPC staff noted they were working on changes to the RSA/LSRA
that would address many of the issues brought up in the original proposal.
- The community has not supported this proposal on list and at the PPC.
- The proposal would require a significant overhaul to remove out of
scope items that would effectively diminish the proposal."
The AC abandoned ARIN-2014-3, 2014-8 and 2014-11. Anyone dissatisfied
with these decisions may initiate a petition. The deadline to begin a
petition will be five business days after the AC's draft meeting minutes
are published. For more information on starting and participating in
petitions, see PDP Petitions at:
