Policy Proposal 122: Reserved Pool for Future Policy Development
Proposal Originator: Martin Hannigan
Proposal Version: 2.0
Date: 23 Nov 2010
Proposal type: New
Policy term: Temporary, expires on August 10, 2011 00:00 UTC
Policy statement:
Upon receipt of the last /8 that the IANA will allocate to ARIN per the
Global Policy for the Allocation of the Remaining IPv4 Address Space,
ARIN will immediately suspend NRPM 4.10 and place the contiguous /10
designated for NRPM Section 4.10 in a reserved pool. Upon expiration of
this policy, NRPM 4.10 will be reinstated along with the aforementioned
contiguous /10 as it's source pool.
Rationale:
During the recent attempted fix of Section 4.10 we had consensus that
4.10 was insufficient and potentially damaging and unbalanced with
respect to transition efforts. This will provide for time to review
our current depletion strategy and improve upon it to the benefit of the
entire community. If for some unforeseen reason the community does not
act, NRPM Section 4.10 will be reinstated post suspension forthwith. Any
subsequent policy should declare 4.10 deprecated in order to utilize
this reserved pool and be enacted. Otherwise, NRPM 4.10 will be reinstated.
Should be considered an emergency proposal.
Timetable for implementation: Immediate
