In accordance with the ARIN Policy Development Process the ARIN Advisory
Council (AC) held a meeting on 21 April 2010 and made decisions about
several draft policies.
The AC moved the following draft policies to last call (each of these
three drafts will be posted separately to last call):
2010-2: /24 End User Minimum Assignment Unit
2010-4: Rework of IPv6 allocation criteria
2010-6: Simplified M&A transfer policy
The AC abandoned the following draft policies:
2010-3: Customer Confidentiality
2010-5: Reduce and Simplify IPv4 Initial Allocations
2010-7: Simplified IPv6 policy
The AC noted, "Given the lack of support at the ARIN XXV meeting for
Draft Policy 2010-3, and given the petitioner's desire to have the
proposal withdrawn, the AC has abandoned Draft Policy 2010-3."
2010-5 was abandoned due to lack of support.
The AC commented, "Given the lack of support at the ARIN XXV meeting for
2010-7's approach as a comprehensive rewrite of IPv6 policy, the AC has
abandoned Draft Policy 2010-7. However, it was suggested in the meeting
that parts of 2010-7 maybe a good basis for separate proposals more
limited in scope. Therefore, the AC plans to review 2010-7, the related
record from the meeting, and PPML, to see if there are such proposals
that could be resubmitted in the future. As always, the AC welcomes and
encourages community input or proposals that may lead to useful policy."
The following draft policies remain on the AC's docket for further
development and evaluation:
2010-1: Waiting List for Unmet IPv4 Requests
2010-8: Rework of IPv6 assignment criteria
Several of the AC's decisions may be petitioned. This includes the draft
policies that were abandoned (2010-3, 2010-5, 2010-7) and the drafts
that were not selected for last call (2010-1, 2010-8). Anyone
dissatisfied with these decisions may initiate a "Last Call Petition."
The purpose of a petition at this time is to try to send the draft
policy to last call. The deadline to begin a petition is 5 May 2010. For
more information on starting and participating in petitions, see PDP
