Hi all, Adding the right to portability into the ICP-2 draft is honestly a really important move if we want to make sure users actually have some control over their own digital stuff. This kind of portability becomes super important when things go wrong. Let’s say an RIR ends up failing—maybe they go bankrupt, get caught in some internal mess, or even shut down because of legal or political reasons. Without portability, everyone under that RIR could be in serious trouble. You could see service go down, data get lost, websites crashing—you name it. But with portability, users can jump ship to a different RIR and keep things running smoothly. Like if a business’s RIR collapses, it should be able to just move to a better one and keep working like nothing happened. Customers wouldn’t even notice. This is a big deal especially for people who aren't super tech-savvy. Most users wouldn't know how to deal with that kind of chaos if their RIR suddenly stops working. Portability gives them a safety net. They don’t have to understand all the technical stuff—they just need to know their online presence won’t disappear overnight. It’s a key part of building a more open, fair, and reliable Internet. It supports everything ICP-2 is trying to achieve accountability, transparency, and putting users first. With portability, we give people the freedom to decide how and where their resources are managed. And that makes the entire Internet ecosystem stronger for everyone.
