[arin-tech-discuss] Why does ORG registration fail?

Hello Lorraine,

It’s failing because NET-12-235-239-220-1 (the net handle in your URL) does not exist. In general, a sensible approach would be to always use the net handle of your direct allocation (in this case, NET-12-0-0-0-1) in the URL. You can rely on that existing (until/unless you no longer have that direct allocation, which is something we can reasonably forecast won’t often happen).

Hope that helps!

-Jon

We are sending the following ORG registration:

URL: https://reg.arin.net/rest/net/NET-12-235-239-220-1/org?apikey=XXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX

METHOD: POST

PAYLOAD:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?>

<org

    xmlns="http://www.arin.net/regrws/core/v1">

    <iso3166-1>

        <name>UNITED STATES</name>

        <code2>US</code2>

        <code3>USA</code3>

        <e164>1</e164>

    </iso3166-1>

    <streetAddress>

        <line number="1">3513 E Hwy 158</line>

    </streetAddress>

    <city>Midland</city>

    <iso3166-2>TX</iso3166-2>

    <postalCode>79706</postalCode>

    <registrationDate></registrationDate>

    <handle></handle>

    <orgName>SMITH INDUSTRIES</orgName>

    <dbaName>SMITH INDUSTRIES</dbaName>

    <pocLinks>

        <pocLinkRef description="Admin Poc" function="AD" handle="DEALJ7-ARIN"/>

        <pocLinkRef description="Abuse Poc" function="AB" handle="DEALJ7-ARIN"/>

        <pocLinkRef description="Tech Poc" function="T" handle="DEALJ7-ARIN"/>

    </pocLinks>

</org>

The only response we are getting back from ARIN is:

ERROR: The record you identified couldn't be found in the database.

The only record I can think of is wrong is the POC handle, but if you do:

https://whois.arin.net/rest/poc/DEALJ7-ARIN

You will see it is there. Is there something else wrong? I would appreciate any assistance.

Thanks,
Lorraine Figueroa
