ACSP Suggestion 2026.11: Send ICMP Replies in Response to ICMP Echo Requests
https://www.arin.net/participate/community/acsp/suggestions/2026/2026-11/
Author: Job Snijders
Submitted On: 06 October 2026
Description:
On rpki.arin.net and rrdp.arin.net send ICMP replies in response to ICMP echo requests.
Already today other ARIN services (ftp.arin.net, whois.arin.net, rr.arin.net) respond to ICMP echo requests.
Value to Community:
The ARIN RPKI repository services responding to ICMP echo requests will help operators when diagnose potential connectivity issues. ICMP service will also facilitate operators to monitor reachability of the ARIN services and work towards optimising network paths.
Situation in other regions: all other RIRs made their public Rsync and RRDP endpoints pingable, in the RIPE region there was explicit mandate from the community to do so.
Timeframe: Not specified
Status: Closed
ARIN Comment:
Thank you for your suggestion, numbered 2026.11 upon confirmed receipt, requesting that ARIN send ICMP replies in response to ICMP echo requests on rpki.arin.net and rrdp.arin.net.
We recognize the benefit that this would provide to operators, and it will be considered as part of our internal prioritization process. This suggestion is now closed.
Thank you for participating in ARIN’s Consultation and Suggestion Process.
