ARIN received the following suggestion on 15 November 2016:
In light of the BOT's activation of the appointment process (appointing
Merike Kaeo to the ARIN Board for a one-year term);
and given that the appointed Board member is restricted by the bylaws to
a one-year term;
and given that the bylaws do not restrict the appointed Board member
from running for an elected seat on the Board while seated on the Board;
and given the Charter of the Nomination Committee, paragraph 3.0,
section C, allows only the number of open (electable) positions on the
Board plus 1 but no more than 2 ...
I request the Charter be amended prior to the seating of the 2017 NomCom
to allow more than a single non-incumbent candidate to run for election
to the Board in the case where two elected Board members are nominated
for the Board election and one appointed Board member is nominated for
the Board election. This already potentially affects the 2017 election
(two elected members have expiring terms [Denton and Woodcock] and one
appointed member will have an expiring term [Kaeo]. It also may affect
future elections in years where the Board has a seated appointed Member.
On 16 November, it provided the following response to the submitter:
Thank you for your suggestion, numbered 2016.14 upon confirmed receipt.
As we understand it, this suggestion recommends the Charter of the
Nominating Committee (NomCom) be amended so that there are multiple
non-incumbent candidates on the Board of Trustees slate.
Given that committee-related matters are under the authority of the ARIN
Board of Trustees, this suggestion will be provided to the Board for its
consideration.
This suggestion will remain open pending next steps. Thank you for your
participation in the ARIN Consultation and Suggestion Process.
