Revising Section 4.4 C/I Reserved Pool Size

<br>
ARIN received the following policy proposal and is posting it to
the
<br>
Public Policy Mailing List (PPML) in accordance with the Policy
<br>
Development Process.
<br>
<br>
The ARIN Advisory Council (AC) will review the proposal at their
next
<br>
regularly scheduled meeting (if the period before the next
regularly
<br>
scheduled meeting is less than 10 days, then the period may be
extended
<br>
to the subsequent regularly scheduled meeting). The AC will decide
how
<br>
to utilize the proposal and announce the decision to the PPML.
<br>
<br>
The AC invites everyone to comment on the proposal on the PPML,
<br>
particularly their support or non-support and the reasoning
<br>
behind their opinion. Such participation contributes to a thorough
<br>
vetting and provides important guidance to the AC in their
deliberations.

ARIN-prop-177 Revising Section 4.4 C/I Reserved Pool Size
<br>
<br>
Proposal Originator: Martin Hannigan
<br>
<br>
Proposal Version: 1.0
<br>
<br>
Date: 27 JUNE 2012
<br>
<br>
Proposal type: NEW
<br>
<br>
Policy term: PERMANENT
<br>
<br>
Policy statement:
<br>
<br>
Change Section 4.4 Paragraph 2 from:
<br>
<br>
ARIN will place an equivalent of a /16 of IPv4 address space in a
<br>
reserve for Critical Infrastructure, as defined in section 4.4. If
at
<br>
the end of the policy term there is unused address space remaining
in
<br>
this pool, ARIN staff is authorized to utilize this space in a
manner
<br>
consistent with community expectations.
<br>
<br>
Change Section 4.4 Paragraph 2 to:
<br>
<br>
ARIN will place an equivalent of a /15 of IPv4 address space in a
<br>
reserve for Critical Infrastructure, as defined in section 4.4.
<br>
<br>
Rationale:
<br>
<br>
Additional critical infrastructure is being added to the Internet
and
<br>
in a number greater than anticipated. The original CI pool was
created
<br>
to serve new IX and new CI requirements. The pending need is
estimated
<br>
in the 600 new gTLD range. With a /24 assignment from the existing
<br>
boundary and the likelihood of some sharing platforms, assigning a
/15
<br>
would seem prudent. I also have removed the limited term. If at a
<br>
later date we opt to remove or reduce the pool, it's simpler to do
so
<br>
without an extra step, namely the term. The process for completing
the
<br>
additions still has some time to play out, but it is likely we
will
<br>
have exhausted by the time that the process does fully play out.
