I agree,

The change ARIN did was nothing but fair and reasonable.
I don't think that ARIN should feel "peer pressure" to do something that
other RIRs do.
Keep in mind that RIPE LIRs got 3 options, each (pay more, pay more or pay
more) so they understandably chose to pay more.
In my personal opinion, they should rather cut spending on non-essential
services such as RIPE Atlas.
