I am not in favor of keeping v4 alive any longer than necessary.  I would favor possibly taking it from 3 months to 6 months but probably not much longer than that.  Many networks often have optimistic projections a year out.  Their latest thing is *always* going to be wildly successful and address requirement projections generally err on the high side because nobody wants to get caught short.  As we get closer to runout, people are going to want even more with the notion that they may not be able to get any more later.  There will be some amount of hoarding going on as is natural for people to do.  But relatively few networks when looked at over the entire region have a reliably predictable IP address burn rate.  What going to one year does is results on over allocation of resources.

The rationale seems to be "everyone else is doing it this way and we don't want to be the odd man out" or "we want to go ahead and burn up v4 as quickly as possible to encourage people to migrate to v6" and that doesn't make sense to me either.
