In some areas or practice (think "audits"), the "Say as you do, do as you
say" mantra is the key for avoiding future
confusions/incidents/findings/lawsuits.
If existing policy does not clearly support the practice, I would think
codifying the practice in policy is a very good thing (especially if the
practice might experience some challenges going forward).
My experience with the ARIN staff is that they always seem to
apply the appropriate level of common sense and do the right
thing. While I do not want to so hamstring them with proscriptive
policy that they cannot make common sense decisions, I do want
to make sure that they have the backing in the policy to continue
to do their good works.
Any changes in the existing policy/practice should go through
a different proposal.
This was all a round about way to say I support this policy moving
forward.
