Michael,
The point can be found in an understanding of pragmatists and ideologues.
The pragmatists seek to identify ways to keep the Internet functioning
and growing while whatever happens with new tech like IPv6 sorts
itself out. The present is reality and until the future becomes the
present they figure out ways to get along in those parts of the future
that are confidently assured. Like the existence and growth of the
IPv4 Internet 5 years from now. And the end of the IANA free pool
sooner.
The ideologues clearly understand that IPv6 is The Future, capital T,
capital F. If you're not on board the train before the doors close
you'll be left standing at the station. And if you're fool enough not
to get on board then you should be left behind.
I think both pragmatists and ideologues have valuable roles to play,
but quite frankly trying to insert ideology into the pragmatists'
discussion is distracting and unhelpful.
So knock it off, hey?
Regards,
