I don't think there is anything you could do in an email you couldn't do in a web interface.

Shoot you could create a text area on the web ui where the template could be pasted into or a part of.  That said... I don't see how anyone could possibly win the argument that the email template has more capability.

I think possibly the real issue is usability of the web interface and that it may be lacking some usability components.. For example the ability to quickly modify a field or two and submit vs filling a form.

To me what would make the most sense is to address the real problem.. Is it just that users are stuck in their old ways, or would everyone advocating that we should keep the templates... Be ok with the web ui if it were modified / changed to meet their needs?
