I don't know where else to request better understanding, so I thought I'd ask here. With a good grasp on binary/dec/hexa conversion, and even though both RFCs are very well written and documented, I can't quite pull together how the netmask factor works relevant to RFC 1219 and RFC 3531. Could someone here either recommend a better venue for me to discuss these RFCs (in regard to a final decision on how to initially decide on an IPv6 layout), or provide real-world examples of this type of layout, and how it has/will provide them with future growth, whether it be in IPv4 or IPv6 context? Intimidation is the major factor in how to pre-plan our IPv6 deployment. To be honest, the more I focus on IPv6, the more I notice mistakes in our IPv4 deployment. This is where the ARIN IPv6 wiki can be useful. There is an entire article on IPv6 addressing plans that can get you started and also a lot of other IPv6 information, pointers to presentations and tutorials and educational resources. Since the wiki focuses on IPv6 from the viewpoint of an ISP, it may be more relevant than some of the other IPv6 help sites which tend to be more enterprise focused. --Michael Dillon From ml at t-b-o-h.net Thu Apr 10 11:24:03 2008 From: ml at t-b-o-h.net (Tuc at T-B-O-H) Date: Thu, 10 Apr 2008 11:24:03 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [arin-discuss] ARIN Seeks Test Drivers for Project X Message-ID: <200804101524.m3AFO3Cx088115@vjofn.tucs-beachin-obx-house.com> > > We've released an alpha version of our base model. Ok, granted, I tried to change my POC information and it ended up just going around in circles... And the IP addresses look sorta silly (0 padded)... But it claims I have a /19 that I gave back 3 years ago, WHOO HOO!! I really could use it, will start contacting my upstreams and putting it into the ALTDB. ;) Tuc
