Ultimately a majority of the Board felt this would be a good step; however, it did not reach the threshold required for a bylaws change.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">I would say there is strong Board Consensus that there is not one silver bullet to solve the concerns raised by the community. We will need to continue to look at a wide range of initiatives - big and small - to widen the net. Some will work better then others but from my view this is not a problem solved overnight and one where we continually need to get new people engaged in the community. The Board will continue to look at ways we can assist in this area and as always community feedback continues to be very useful. Certainly areas like the fellowship program and outreach programs like ARIN On The Road have brought new blood into the community from areas we have not traditionally seen — and I hope this continues.</div><div class=""><br class=""></div><div class="">The Board is ultimately most effective when we have a wide range of viewpoints around the table with those views coming from diversity in areas such as gender, geography, background and skills. That appears to be working thus far. We’ll see how it goes in the election, but the slate that the nomcom has presented contains excellent candidates, far better-qualified than in an average year, and representing the diversity of ARIN membership. So, my take on that is “so far, so good,” but we’ll see how it winds up after the election before calling it a complete success. There are some folks, like myself, who believe that larger boards are, by their very nature, unproductive, and thus to be eschewed. There are others whose principal argument seems to be that with a larger board, more people can slack off while still achieving quorum, who think that makes a larger board desirable. Me, I say that just goes to prove my point. At any rate, the motion to increase the size of the board did not pass, again. People can keep trying it. Whatever.
