The ARIN Advisory Council (AC), acting under the provisions of the ARIN Internet Resource Policy Evaluation Process (IRPEP), has reviewed policy proposal 2005-3: Lame Delegations and has determined that there is community consensus in favor of the proposal to move it to last call. The AC made this determination at their meeting at the conclusion of the ARIN Public Policy meeting in April, 2005. Minutes of the Public Policy Meeting can be found at http://www.arin.net/meetings/minutes/ARIN_XV/index.html. The results of the AC meeting were reported by the Chair of the AC at the member meeting. This report can be found at http://www.arin.net/meetings/minutes/ARIN_XV/mem_minutes.html#anchor_4. The policy proposal text is provided below and is also available at http://www.arin.net/policy/proposals/2005_3.html. Comments are encouraged. All comments should be provided to ppml at arin.net. This last call will expire at 12:00 Noon, Eastern Time, June 1, 2005. The ARIN Internet Resource Policy Evaluation Process can be found at http://www.arin.net/policy/irpep.html. Regards, Member Services American Registry for Internet Numbers (ARIN) ##### Policy Proposal 2005-3: Lame Delegations Policy statement This policy proposal replaces section 7.2 of the ARIN NRPM. ARIN will actively identify lame DNS name server(s) for reverse address delegations associated with address blocks allocated, assigned or administered by ARIN. Upon identification of a lame delegation, ARIN shall attempt to contact the POC for that resource and resolve the issue. If, following due diligence, ARIN is unable to resolve the lame delegation, ARIN will update the WHOIS database records resulting in the removal of lame servers. Policy Rationale (if provided) The policy as stated could not be implemented without placing an undue burden on ARIN staff resources. The procedures mandated in the policy require a shifting of registration service resources from such activities as IP Analyst support for on-going registration actions as well as the telephonic and email help desks. Removing the procedures from the policy allows the Director of Registration Services the flexibility of meeting all registration services needs and managing the identification, notification, and removal of lame delegations. Timetable for implementation: 90 days after adoption
