People will select based on people they know and trust. They will also select based on existing business relationships with companies. When there is only one organization, people have no choice. If you are going to have only one, it might as well be the government because at least they can be held accountable via the various checks and balances in the system. I prefer to have the IP allocation function distributed over many registries. It certainly does not take a rocket scientist to make these allocations.
