expecting usable results from the rrg is a fantasy.  they mean well, but
have been bashing their heads against this for decades.

but, if you want to quote me, from a recent slide deck

  o We have been algorithmically lazy
  o We never engaged the maths folk
  o Routing is considered uninteresting in today's CS programs
  o We have more economists and lawyers in the game than mathematicians
