"So? ARIN has a meeting every six months, good for them." Yes, but do you know WHY? It's not just an opportunity for staff members to get out of Virginia and mingle with the community; these meetings are crucial to the Internet technical community because the policies being developed determine how Internet number resources are administered, and those decisions have a direct impact on the future of the Internet as a whole. With big decisions to be made, many of the biggest players in the Internet community make a point of getting involved (oh you know, just Fortune 100 enterprises, gigantic ISPs and hosting providers, prestigious universities?), and we want them to have the chance to see that you are a player, too. ARIN's Policy Development Process relies on people from the United States, Canada and Caribbean packing up and shipping off to the ARIN meeting to speak up and say, "Hey, I think THIS is how IP addresses should be allocated!" Everyone knows that you can't always create the same dynamic dialog over email, which is why it is so important to hold face-to-face discussions. ARIN meetings fuel the policy process ? draft policy debates and blaze new ideas flowing at lightning speed, and you can help make it all happen. ARIN meeting sponsorships require minimal investment, and it will put you on the radar of some of the most influential organizations in the industry. Interested? Of course you are. One trip to the corner office away from signing? We'd certainly hope so. If you need a convincing argument, have we mentioned how awesomely scalable ARIN sponsorship opportunities are? You can sponsor anything from a snack or meal break to a happy hour or other social event or even network connectivity for ARIN 34. Can't afford to fly solo on sponsoring one of these options? Feel free to tackle a sponsorship alongside another organization, gaining invaluable visibility at an even smaller cost! We can even play matchmaker for you to find a suitable co-sponsor, if you don't have one in mind. ARIN 33 in Chicago will be held 13-16 April 2014, and ARIN 34 in Baltimore will be held 9-10 October, in conjunction with NANOG 62. This gives you plenty of time to negotiate making ARIN meeting sponsorship part of your 2014 marketing budget. In order to hold a meeting in the spring of 2015, we need to secure a network connectivity sponsor. Because the host city is determined based on proximity to our network sponsor, this is the first and most important step in making ARIN 35 a reality. ARIN Meeting sponsorship provides a great opportunity for your organization to show its support for the community-based, transparent, bottom-up policy development process that has served as the foundations on which Internet infrastructure has grown and flourished. So what does ARIN need from its network sponsor? * Sponsors must provide either a /24 of IPv4 addresses or announce and route a /24 provided by ARIN * If a sponsor offers IPv6 transit, it must provide either a /48 of IPv6 addresses or announce and route a /48 provided by ARIN * ARIN requires at least 100 Mbit/ s of bandwidth between the meeting venue and the Internet * ARIN also requires sponsor assistance (staffing and resources) to run its meeting network at the venue to ensure operational uptime and mitigate any network connectivity problems that might arise. For more details, review our sponsorship brochure at: https://www.arin.net/participate/meetings/sponsor.pdf Think your organization might be able to help? First - All IPv4 requests will continue to be processed on a "first in, first out" basis, and all requests of any size will be subject to team review, and requests for a /15 or larger will require department director approval. ARIN's IP analysts will respond to tickets as they appear chronologically in the queue. Each ticket response is treated as an individual transaction, so the completion time of a single request may vary based on customer response times and the number of requests waiting in the queue. Second - The hold period for returned, reclaimed, and revoked blocks will be reduced from 90 days to 60 days. When the IPv4 Countdown Plan was originally published, the hold period for this phase was set to 30 days, but we have increased that time window to better align with the ARIN Registration Services Agreement (RSA). The post-approval process for IPv4 requests will remain the same. When a request is approved, the recipient will have 60 days to complete payment and/or an RSA. On the 61st day, the address space will be released back to the available pool if payment and RSA are not completed. You can learn more about the IPv4 Countdown Plan, including the current breakdown of available address blocks, by visiting: https://www.arin.net/resources/request/ipv4_countdown.html. ARIN may experience situations where it can no longer fulfill qualifying IPv4 requests due to a lack of inventory of the desired block size. At that time, the requester may opt to accept the largest available block size or they may ask to be placed on the Waiting List for Unmet Requests. Full details about this process are available at: https://www.arin.net/resources/request/waiting_list.html Please contact hostmaster at arin.net or the Registration Services Help Desk at +1.703.227.0660 if you have questions about these procedural changes.
