This means that it is now distributing IPv4 address space to Local Internet Registries (LIRs) from the last /8 according to section 5.6 of ?IPv4 Address Allocation and Assignment Policies for the RIPE NCC Service Region?. This section states that an LIR may receive one /22 allocation (1,024 IPv4 addresses), even if they can justify a larger allocation. This /22 allocation will only be made to LIRs if they have already received an IPv6 allocation from an upstream LIR or the RIPE NCC. No new IPv4 Provider Independent (PI) space will be assigned. This policy can be found online at: https://www.ripe.net/ripe/docs/ripe-553 Those members with open requests for IPv4 address space will shortly receive an email regarding the status of their requests. It is now imperative that all stakeholders deploy IPv6 on their networks to ensure the continuity of their online operations and the future growth of the Internet. Additionally, those wishing to validate RPKI information may do so after requesting a Trust Anchor Locator (TAL). ARIN's TAL is required to validate information from ARIN's RPKI repository. RPKI is a free, opt-in service that allows users to certify their Internet number resources to help secure Internet routing. This initiative has been developed within the IETF's SIDR Working Group, with involvement from Regional Internet Registries (RIRs), and numerous Internet Service Providers (ISPs). ARIN encourages members of the Internet community to certify their resources through RPKI. Internet routing today is vulnerable to hijacking and the provisioning/use of certificates is one of steps required to make routing more secure. Widespread RPKI adoption will help simplify IP address holder verification and routing decision-making on the Internet. ARIN plans to continually review and improve RPKI based upon user feedback. Users are encouraged to report any issues via the arin-tech-discuss mailing list. For more information about this crucial step in securing Internet routing as well as future enhancement plans, visit ARIN's RPKI Home Pageat https://www.arin.net/resources/rpki/index.html. There are three key changes that are triggered in this phase. 1. All /16 and larger IPv4 requests will be placed in the IPv4 Review Team queue, and will be reviewed in the order they were received according to their timestamp. Because each correspondence will be processed in sequence, it is possible that response times may exceed the usual two-day turnaround. 2. Once a request is approved, the requestor will have 60 days to complete payment and return a signed RSA (if applicable). If payment and signed RSA have not been received by the 61st day, the ticket will automatically close, the address space will be released back into the available IPv4 pool, and a new request will need to be submitted. NOTE: This change to the approval window from 90 days to 60 days will apply to all IPv4 requests, but not to IPv6 and ASN requests. 3. The hold time for all returned, reclaimed and revoked IPv4 resources will be reduced from six to three months. Phase 2 will provide ARIN staff operational experience using the team review approach to ensure that these processes and procedures are effective for managing the distribution of the last of its IPv4 address pool. We encourage you to visit the IPv4 Countdown Phase Two page at: https://www.arin.net/resources/request/countdown_phase2.html Please contact hostmaster at arin.net or our Help Desk +1.703.227.0660 if you have questions about these procedural changes. View this announcement at: http://aso.icann.org/news/call-for-seat-10-nominations-2013/ The nomination period will end on 19 October 2012. If you are considering nominating someone or yourself, please do not wait until the end of the nomination phase. Nominees will need time to sign and return a letter certifying they are of good character, before the end of the nomination period. Failure to meet the deadline will make nominees ineligible for consideration by the ASO AC Qualification Review Committee. The ASO AC has now published the full timeline for other phases in the selection process. The timeline, along with details on how to submit a nomination, are available at the following URL: http://aso.icann.org/people/icann-board-elections/2013-elections/ Please note: Article VI of the ICANN Bylaws states that: ?At any given time, no two Directors selected by a Supporting Organization shall be citizens from the same country or of countries located in the same Geographic Region.? The ASO AC selection for Seat 9 of the ICANN Board of Directors resides in the ARIN region, so nominees for Seat 10 cannot come from that region. All external Internet services are expected to be available throughout the duration of the outage. In the event external power is not restored by 5:00 AM EDT, ARIN may begin an orderly shutdown of services. Such a shutdown would affect ARIN Online, email template submissions, payment submissions, phone service, and ARIN's web site. Both DNS and Whois services will not be affected, as they are serviced from auxiliary data centers. In the event a shutdown is required, ARIN will post a shutdown notice with additional details to arin-announce at arin.net and on the home page of the web site. As this outage will take place outside of normal operating hours, this will not affect phone availability of the Registration Services or Financial Services Help Desks, or general phone service at ARIN. Approximately 1430 respondents from 105 economies participated in this year's survey. The findings reveal that 77% of those respondents have some level of IPv6 presence, which indicates increased uptake from the previous year. The report explains in further detail that the "real" use of IPv6 has also grown at a faster rate from 2011-2012 than was found from results of the previous survey. The survey was funded by the NRO and the European Commission and conducted by GNKS Consult and TNO. The survey was prepared and carried out by TNO/GNKS in close collaboration with AFRINIC, APNIC, ARIN, Lacnic and the RIPE NCC.
